50 Plus Report News Team to Serve 50 PLUS Generation
Seventy-five million Americans can rest easy, knowing they now have a dedicated news team of their very own. Six seasoned, accomplished reporters make up the on-air 50 PLUS REPORT team. In effect, they’re the faces of the groundbreaking digital and television information hub for news, information, advice and lifestyle reports serving the 50+ generation.
Each team member will be filing regular, bite-sized (one to three-minute) news reports on every facet of life for people fifty and over. The segments include timely information relevant to the growing 50 Plus market. Topics include trends on medicine and health, the latest on finances and investing, entertainment, travel, food, lifestyle, technology and many other subjects.
The timing couldn’t be better because the 50+ are thirsting for important information tailored to their needs. The 50 Plus generation represents the country’s biggest spending and fastest growing demographic. By Year 2018, 50% of America’s adult population will be over the age of 50.
The 50 PLUS REPORT is now airing on KPTS-TV, the PBS affiliate station in Wichita, KS, where the interstitial segments air daily during morning programming. Once these “drop-in” segments air nationally, they will be available for viewing on www.50PlusReport.com, the project’s “mother ship”—an ever-growing source of free news, information and practical advice for boomers and their families.
Expansion to stations nationwide begins later this fall with an accomplished 50 PLUS REPORT news team that include its creator and executive producer, Barbara Valentine, an Emmy Award winning producer/reporter who has amassed hundreds of TV production credits over thirty years as a media executive. Valentine is joined with a team of Associated Press and Golden Mike award winners recognized for exceptional news gathering and storytelling skills.
Mark Alyn, the veteran TV reporter-host with diverse news experience covering personal finance, active lifestyles, food, travel and health on TV and on radio, where he continues to host the nationally syndicated weekly series “Late Night Health with Mark Alyn”.
Sierra Scott currently hosts two local television shows in her native Wichita—The Brett and Sierra Show and It’s ALL Good. An award-winning former local news anchor in Florida, Texas and Missouri, and former Miss Missouri, Sierra also produced and hosted the documentary Destination Darfur: The Untold Story of Peace & Hope, which screened at the Toronto Film Festival.
The bilingual, multi-talented Saro Solis will be filming his 50 PLUS REPORT segments in both English and Spanish. The Illinois native has hosted various television projects and has an extensive background on stage, TV, film and as a voiceover artist. Saro trained with Chicago’s legendary Second City comedy troupe.
TV journalist Germany Kent is among the country’s social media leaders, having published ten nonfiction social media books including The Hope Handbook Series and You Are What You Tweet. Germany has spent her share of time on red carpets interviewing celebrities and, like Saro, also has a performance background. She has appeared on numerous TV series (Criminal Minds, Graceland, others) and on the big screen in Star Trek: Into Darkness.
For more than two decades, U.S. Navy veteran Ernie Castelo has made TV news his life, covering politics, crime, natural disasters, business, health, sports, human-interest features and much more. Ernie knows every facet of news gathering, having worked as a writer, field reporter, anchor, executive producer and news director. A board member of the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California (which presents the prestigious Golden Mike awards), Ernie also runs RTNA’s college scholarship program for broadcast journalism majors.
