We all get in a rut once in awhile. After all it takes a lot of energy to raise a family, work a full-time job, run a household and then stay fashionable all at the same time. Eventually, you get burnt out and then out comes the ponytail and the barely there or never there makeup. Then when a life change comes i.e divorce, job loss, the death of a beloved family member, we just stay in that rut. It is not healthy. When you don’t feel good on the outside you won’t feel good on the inside. There is a reason why when you get a great cut you have a bounce in your step as you walk out of the salon. Give yourself a makeover and give yourself a reason to feel great. Not only on the outside but also on the inside.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
Identify your face shape: This will help you find out what haircuts will best suit your face.
Consider color: Try going a shade or 2 lighter or try out a deep auburn if you have dark hair. If you have lighter hair, you could try highlights.
Tell your stylist what you think your best feature is: If you mention that you think your best feature is your eyes, lips, cheeks and that you’d like to make them “pop”, then they will know exactly what to do.
After you get a new hairstyle get a makeup makeover: Once your hair gets made over then it’s time to makeover your face and skin. Go to a department store and let them know you are looking for a makeover. Pay attention to the colors they use and the type of products they put on your skin. Ask a lot of questions. Then if possible buy a few items. If price is an issue get the rest at a drugstore.
Restyle the rest of your look: Take a friend shopping whose style you’ve always admired. Have them help you pick out some new clothes to go with your new look. If you wear glasses have them help you pick out some new stylish frames. Then bribe them with some food and model everything from your closet. Have them say “yes” or “no” and suggest ways to perk up your more boring pieces. Donate your no items to charity.
Don’t be a slave to trends: Just because baby blue eye shadow makes a comeback doesn’t mean you should go out and buy it if it won’t compliment your eye color.
Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen: When we were young we didn’t give the sun a second thought. Now though the sun is an enemy to our skin. But you don’t want to feel like you are wearing a mask by putting on sunscreen and then foundation on top of that. Try a foundation with sunscreen, or put on sunscreen and tinted moisturizer. Then go back and use a dabbing stick foundation in just the places you need it.
Start with what you love: If you find yourself in need of a makeover but don’t know where to start, then start with something that you love. For instance have you always had a passion for shoes? Then start by buying a pair of shoes that inspire you or that you make you feel great. Then work your way upwards.
Now that you have these tips go out there and take over the world.
