Think rain forest, tropical vintage Hawaiian and for those of you who love a tinted pastel, think garden. This spring and summer there is a nice balance between the jewel tones that fall brought us last year and the cool tones of the coming seasons. Now is the time to start pulling out those floral circle skirts, and pairing them with sheer, airy, or collared blouses. Not a fan of skirts? No problem. The suit silhouette is also very popular this spring & summer. A pastel blue, or for those of you bold enough, a white tailored pant will do just fine. Incorporate the color and patterns subtle or strong, but don’t be afraid. Even a cardigan with a little color blocking will do the trick.
The idea is to reawaken the flower dwelling inside your closet. Bring all the colors out and try working them in with your black, white and nudes. Neutrals can be key when layering or pairing so put to use your foundation pieces. Try a new approach and underlayer. This involves layering the neutrals on top and letting the color peek out underneath.
The rules don’t just apply to women! When combining tailored and casual pieces, men can find themselves at a splendid sporty balance. Even in a shoe, a brighter color complimented by smooth suede would work really well this spring & summer. I encourage capturing a little luxury in your look.
Update your purse, wallet or outerwear with a hand-crafted piece. A hand cut and stitched piece with manicured details is never neglected and instead draws attention purely because of its quality. This usually (but not always) involves leatherworks, and you will want to look for animal hide colors with different texture, tooling or burnishing. Take a weekend to visit some local vendors who specialize, and give back to small businesses in your community. It’s never too early to start shopping!
