Have you ever just lost your voice and wondered why. Was it a sign of coming down with a cold, or maybe getting over a cold or yelling too loud at a game you attended; a lost voice due to inflammation of the larynx causes stress to your vocal cords. The same hoarseness can result from laryngitis, inflammation of the vocal cords due to an infection, which can be either bacterial or viral. Just like with yelling, the vocal cords swell which changes the sound of your voice.
Whatever the cause of your laryngitis, you just want a solution that will bring your voice back. But what are your options if you do not want to take a bunch of cough and cold medication? The simple solution is to drink juice – not Orange Juice but Pineapple Juice.
Looking into what can help fight a sore throat many people are finding that various foods have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial qualities. Certain foods can be more potent that any of the over-the-counter cold and sore throat drugs. People usually call these foods “super foods” since they seem to have super human qualities. One such food is pineapple. Pineapple is considered to be a super food since it is a natural source of bromelain. Bromelain is the anti-inflammatory agent that is found in pineapples and is being viewed as a promising alternative in the fight against cancer. According to holistic nutritionist Karen Foster, pineapple is a “helpful nutrient that works to implement the use of vital enzymes within the body that regulate metabolism and energy conversion.” This is one reason why pineapple is considered to be a super food.
Pineapple juice is considered to be the alternative cough syrup. It contains the same benefits that cold medicines have and yet it does not cause some of the side effects that some cold medicines do. Sometimes cough syrups can cause drowsiness and or sleepiness and is the reason why some people choose not to take cough syrup. In many cases when a loss of voice occurs or when a throat becomes scratchy, and can be because a person is talking too much throughout the day. Many people do not want to take cough medicine and are looking for something that they can replace holistically instead of taking medicine.
Drinking pineapple juice helps soothe a sore throat and aids the body to expel mucous easily. Thick and stubborn mucus in your lungs or sinuses can cause spasms of coughing, sneezing and painful infections.
According to a research study in “Der Pharma Chemica” in 2010, it was discovered that a recipe using raw pineapple, pepper, salt and honey given to patients every day helped dissolve the mucus in the lungs.
Pineapple Cough Suppressant Recipe
– 1 cup of fresh pineapple juice
– 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
– 1 piece of ginger (about 3 inches)
– 1 Tbsp raw honey
– 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients and take 1/4 cup, 2-3 x/day and repeat recipe daily.
Drinking pineapple juice isn’t just an alternative to taking cough syrup, it is also a way for someone to get 50% of the daily recommended amount of Vitamin C. This is just another reason to drink a glass of pineapple juice. Pineapple juice also contains high levels of manganese, an essential mineral in the body that is necessary to make every organ to properly function.
In a subsequent study, research found that raw extracts from pineapple could decrease mucus five times faster than over-the-counter cough syrups. Patients recovered 4.8 times faster and exhibited a decrease in all symptoms related to coughing, especially hacking.
