As we get older, we notice the natural signs of aging. Maybe it is a new streak of silver or fine lines left from years of laughter. We have natural and human forces that are working against us besides our years. There is the sun, food, stress, and sometimes our own bad habits. Thankfully, we also have some ways to bring a halt to the aging process. Some of these inexpensive beauty tips even seem to reverse it.
Countless infomercials, magazine ads, and celebrity endorsements would have you believe that you need hundreds of dollars’ worth of beauty products in order to be presentable to leave the house, but we have set out to prove that simply isn’t true. To look your best without breaking the budget, try these amazing beauty tips
1. Say “NO” to habits that prematurely age your skin
Some tough addictions to break fall into this category. Smoking is the most significant factor that causes deep wrinkles and unhealthy skin, and that’s not even considering what it is doing to your lungs. Tanning is another popular pastime that is doing your skin much more harm than good. You may love that sun-kissed look, but it is extremely damaging to your skin, causing that leathered look, wrinkling, and skin cancer. Being the healthiest that you can be is the best first step you can take toward looking your best. Eat well, stay active, and break the habits that are holding you back.
2. Baby your skin
This doesn’t necessarily mean using creams that cost extraordinary amounts. Your skin simply requires daily moisturizer and sunscreen. Look for moisturizers that include alpha lipoic acid (or ALA) as an ingredient. It is an anti-oxidant with proven antiaging benefits. Vitamins C and E are also beneficial, as are retinoids. A sunscreen of at least SPF 30 should be worn every day to protect your skin from sun damage that can accelerate quickly as we get older.
3. Avoid makeup techniques that add on years.
The makeup tips and tricks that worked in your 20s may no longer be suitable. Some examples of makeup trends that can age you include heavy blush, dark lip liner, and using dark eyeliner on your lower lashes.
4. Choose the right foundation.
It may be time to update your foundation and concealer, if you have been using the same one for several years. As your skin changes, a product that was perfect 10 years ago may no longer be appropriate. The correct shade and consistency will leave you with a natural, polished finish.
5. Care for your hair
In order to stop watching an increasing amount of strands wash down the drain, there is really only one solution: wash your hair less. This requires learning some new tricks to counteract oil buildup and keep your hair looking clean and fresh for days between washes. Dry shampoo is a fabulous modern product that can be applied to keep hair clean and fresh without harsh cleansing.
6. Keep your lips kissable
Use a gentle exfoliate on your lips and surrounding skin. Follow up with an antiaging moisturizer on the skin and lip balm for your lips. Regularly applying lip balm with sunscreen and moisturizers keeps your pout soft and pretty.
7. Don’t overlook your hands
After our face, our hands are the number one part of our body that shows our age. Frequently apply a moisturizing hand cream throughout the day, and keep your nails looking their best. Go polish free or keep it touched up to avoid sloppy, chipped appearance.
8. Consider your medications and supplements
If you are having trouble with acne, dry skin, or oily hair that you’ve never experienced before, ask your doctor or pharmacist if it could be due to one of your medications. Even over the counter supplements can have side effects that we may not be aware of, especially in combination with other pills.
9. Go subtle with scents
You may not notice your perfume because you are so used to wearing it, but that doesn’t mean that you need more. A few dabs are sufficient, or you can choose a scented lotion as a light alternative.
10. Have a superior smile
Choose a lip color that looks natural and complements your skin tone. Talk to your dentist about safe teeth whitening. Some options exist that are not good for your enamel, so be careful about bargain offers. A bright smile makes everyone look his or her best.
